Some weddings stay with you forever. Not because the weather was perfect—but because it wasn’t. Yvonne and Marcus celebrated their wedding on Nonnenau Island near Bingen, on one of the hottest days of the year. Temperatures well above 30°C, mini fans everywhere, ice-cold drinks in everyone’s hands—and despite the heat, the atmosphere couldn’t have been better.
As a wedding photographer in Bingen, I’ve photographed plenty of summer weddings. But this one was definitely among the hottest.
Getting Married on Nonnenau Island
The experience started long before the ceremony. Together with all of their guests, we crossed the Rhine by ferry to reach Nonnenau Island. It might only take a few minutes, but it immediately feels like you’ve left everyday life behind. The whole wedding had the atmosphere of a little summer getaway. Despite the heat, Yvonne and Marcus stayed incredibly relaxed. They knew the day wasn’t about looking perfect—it was about celebrating with the people they love most.
An Outdoor Ceremony Full of Personality
Their outdoor ceremony was led by Daniela Wißmer and couldn’t have suited them better. Personal, relaxed, emotional, and full of genuine laughter. Nothing felt staged or overcomplicated. Just two people saying yes in front of their closest family and friends.
Champagne, Cupcakes & Summer Vibes
After the ceremony, everyone gathered for a relaxed champagne reception. Unsurprisingly, cold drinks were almost as popular as congratulating the newlyweds.
Wedding cake and cupcakes followed before a delicious flying buffet was served. The entire day took place outdoors, surrounded by trees and overlooking the Rhine. It was one of those weddings where nobody felt rushed. Everyone simply enjoyed the day.
A Bride in the River
After dinner, we headed down to the river for a few couple portraits during golden hour. And then Yvonne did something I definitely didn’t expect—she simply walked into the water wearing her wedding dress.
Honestly? On a day like this, it might have been the smartest decision anyone made.
Those photos became some of my favorites because they perfectly captured the spirit of the day: relaxed, spontaneous, and completely authentic. Sometimes the best moments happen when nobody is trying too hard.
First Dance Under the Open Sky
The first dance took place outside, right next to the Rhine. No ballroom. No ceiling. Just warm summer air, beautiful evening light, and an incredible atmosphere. The music throughout the day was provided by Marius macht Musik (Marius Schöfl), who created the perfect soundtrack from start to finish.
After that, the party really took off. Despite the heat, nobody wanted to leave the dance floor.
It was the perfect ending to a wedding that felt more like a summer holiday than a traditional wedding day.

Yvonne and Marcus showed that unforgettable weddings don’t depend on perfect conditions. Sometimes all you need is a unique location, amazing people, and the willingness to simply enjoy the day.
