A few years back wedding celebrant Trautante Friederike and I planed a After-Wedding-Shooting with UV- und blacklight. In her kitchen. And right after this After-Wedding-Shooting we knew: we have to do a real wedding ceremony like this. How cool that could look like?!
Big spoiler alert: the blacklight wedding was insane! Unbelievable stuff. And the images turned out epic. Another cool thing about all of this: this is the world’s wedding ceremony with blacklight. What an amazing feeling that is… No one ever done this before. But honestly – I’d love to this this way more often.
Crazy weddings?! Yes, please!
You might already know that, but I really have a thing for extraordinary weddings. I love, when traditions and habits at weddings are thought in new ways and turn into something new and unique. Because that is, what this bridal couple did at their big day.
And that’s the same for my good friend Friederike, who did the wedding renewal ceremony at that day. You really get the feeling that she had all of this in her brain for ages. For a wedding photographer it’s one thing, that all of this looked cool, but on the other hand, all of this had a pretty serious background. She did a fantastic job finding the right couple and did the exact right rituals that fitted with them so well.
Wedding ceremony with blacklight in a german forest
After the getting ready, the fourth of us – bride, groom, wedding photographer and celebrant – drove in a forest near Wiesbaden, Germany for the ceremony of this intimate micro wedding. The candles in the hands of the wedding couple really added to the mood and kept them warm during the stormy and cold night in german winter – and that turned out way better than we all thought.
Holi powder as the finale of the epic black light wedding
Another thing I learned at that day is the fact that besides of all that blacklight magic, the most important thing is and always will be real emotions. I like the light effects and unique picture style, but what I love is the moments that happened with tears and laughter. You can really see the love between the both of them and how the wedding renewal brought them even closer together. As a wedding photographer in my opinion that is the best case I could imagine, no matter if that’s during the day near my home base in Wiesbaden, Germany, on a meadow in the USA or at night in a forest.
So you better take a look on your own at the pictures I took as a wedding photographer and how celebrant Friederike married the couple in the style of the Indian holi festival, because bride and groom travel a lot around the world.
Kati and Lars – thank you for making this dream possible!
* don’t worry – Friederike chose organic colors that won’t hurt the environment. She’s way too clever… ?
